Lucid dreaming, many have the problem of whether it’s healthy or not for human life. Or even broader questions as to what it really means by lucid dreaming. Let us relate it to science. Before going into detail of any scientific explanation, those of us to whom this topic is very contemporary. Here is what lucid dreaming simply means.

What does it mean by Lucid Dreaming?

As dreaming is a highly preowned topic to all of us, it would be unnecessary to elaborate on it at all. But this would not be the case for lucid. The simple dictionary meaning for lucid is vivid or clear. Now, when we take Lucid dreaming, it merely means dreaming while being conscious. Sounds pretty unreal, but it is truly possible. There is scientific evidence as to when it happens, whether it is healthy, is it normal, and every other question that it possibly could follow.

Is it ok to do Lucid Dreaming?

Now when we come to the actual topic, which is the science behind lucid dreaming, first of all, we should not be afraid of what it is. Because it may occur naturally and can be induced in others for medical reasons and treatments. Most importantly, it is not considered a disease. The first scientific evidence for lucid dreaming was discovered in 1975 by a British parapsychologist named Keith Hearne. In his findings, he discovered that lucid dreaming is indeed real. And when it occurs, there is rapid conscious eye movement in the dreamer. When the experience of lucid dreaming is explained by one of the people who volunteered in research, it was said that at one instance, one could literally feel that he or she was dreaming. In another instance, it was felt that you have awoken and fallen asleep with little or no break in consciousness.

Benefits of Lucid Dreaming

Another exciting fact stated about lucid dreaming is that there are benefits in dreaming this way. A team of scientists in Germany found out that lucid dreamers are able to self-reflect distinctly better than those who don’t. They are more skilled in controlling their dreams than others. Therefore their area in the brain, which helps in self-reflecting, is much larger. Lucid dreaming could also help people who are having trouble with nightmares, which has become a reason for people to learn how to become lucid dreamers.

Is that actually possible to do it?

One technique that we can follow when trying is to, as the assistant clinical professor Deirdre Barrett says, “tell ourselves just when we are falling asleep that we will dream tonight.” It may sound a little absurd as one could say that we would not know what happens after falling asleep, and we could end up seeing no dream. Yeah, definitely nothing is possible without practice and the real wanting. Therefore, you might have to practice often.

The conclusion would be that lucid dreaming is no hazard. Still, actually, it’s pretty safe, it could make one more aware of the surrounding. The best thing is that we get to imagine what we like by simply falling asleep. That’s all of what we have to say about the science behind lucid dreaming.
